Buffy Owens, Founder & Feldenkrais Practitioner
Buffy Owens, the founder of A Space to Grow and Conscious Movements, is a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner (G.C.F. P.) with over 15 years experience in the mind-body fields. She is admittedly addicted to the art of learning and the wonders of meditation and mindfulness practices. She also takes particular joy in supporting people along their path to less pain, greater self-discovery, and in enhancing the lives of children with special needs & extraordinary gifts.
Buffy’s commitment to the study and practice of the mind-body arts dates back to 1995, when she first began her studies as a massage therapist. It was then, as she studied the anatomy and physiology of the human body, that she began to explore the spirit that moves the form through meditation and awareness based movement practices.
Eventually she traded in her massage table for more academic pursuits— earning a degree in Kinesiology with special emphasis in Psychology & Neuroscience. Upon graduation, Buffy went on to completed an extensive four year professional training program in the Feldenkrais Method of Somatic Education. She now merges her practical training in movement education and academic studies with her passion for helping curious people just like you to find yourself in motion.

Buffy's Service & Offerings...
- FREE PHONE CONSULTATION
- INITIAL in-take SESSION
- FELDENKRAIS SESSIONS
This 20-minute complimentary phone consultation is a perfect place to begin. It’s risk free and it will give us an opportunity to connect and learn about one another, for you to ask questions and to learn about my classes and services. If you are parent seeking services for your child, then this phone consult is a must, as I prefer not to talk about children in front of them unless they are involved in the conversation.
In this Initial Feldenkrais Consultation we will have a conversation with some leading questions, do a brief hands-on evaluation, and a short Awareness Through Movement exploration. Basically, we will explore a bit of both aspects of the Fekdenkrais Method so that you have a feel for what happens both in the group classes and in the private sessions.
I will give you my honest opinion for what is possible and together we come up with a plan that works for you. This could include private sessions, classes, a combination of the two or referral out. 90-minutes.
After the required Initial Intake Session, you can enjoy 60-minute Private Feldenkrais Sessions as you need them.
The Private sessions are ideal for those with chronic pain, specific interests or needs and pregnant women seeking more comfort. The Private Sessions can be utilized as traditional Hands-on Functional Integration Session, or as a Private Awareness Through Movement Class (1-15 participants). If you are booking for anything other than a Functional Integration session, then please let me know via the Special Requests area.

Awareness Through Movement®
Whether you are new to Feldenkrais or have already had private sessions, you will enjoy and benefit from Awareness Through Movement classes. Each class is based on a very precise study of how the nervous system learns. Many of the classes are grounded in infant development patterns, while others are subtle investigations into everyday functions like walking, sitting, standing, squatting and more.
Feldenkrais Immersions are purely experiential and allow you to deepen your kinesthetic intelligence without too much thinking. The immersions are perfect for those who want to take a bit of time to turn inward or who are seeking a mindfulness and movement retreat. Each immersion will explore 3-5 Awareness Through Movement® lessons. There will also be time for tea and to commune with others through casual conversation or to sip in silence and journal.
Feldenkrais Workshops are ideal for those who are interested in finding out more about the science behind the movement—anatomy, neuroplasticity, and human development. So if you love moving and are curious about it, any workshop will give you good ideas and a good time. All workshops include Awareness Through Movement, handouts that include self-care and suggested self-discovery exercises.
The Conscious Reading Club
The Conscious Reading Club meets every six to eight weeks to discuss a book of choice and book topics generally relate to Somatic Movement, Neuroplasticity, Trauma or Mindfulness.
Are you looking for a chance to connect with others in the Troy’s meditation community? Are you seeking the opportunity to join regularly in a group meditation practice? Although meditation is an individual inner experience, meditating in groups provides a sense of community and connectedness.
Buffy is one of several teachers leading group meditation one Saturday a month. Join us on the last Saturday of each month for a three hour mini-meditation retreat. Each month will facilitated by a different instructor to bring you a spectrum of practices and perspectives— from guided mindfulness practices to silent zen practices. First timers and those with any meditation experience are welcome.
Feel The Love
The proof has been in the proverbial pudding: I have significantly reduced the # of medications I take/took regularly and have cut way back on the dosages of others. There has been such a reduction in pain overall that I was able to do things I hadn’t done in years, even decades, including riding my bicycle, cooking, and my main love, playing guitar. Buffy and the Feldenkrais Method have brought to me a deep awareness of my body, how I move, how I use it to deal with pain, ways to breathe deeply and relax, increase function and awareness and much, much more.
I first came to Buffy for personal training after my son was born in 2003. She helped reintroduce me to my abdominal muscles. Since then I have seen her as a Feldenkrais practitioner for postural issues and injuries. I love to Crossfit and I was having sore knees. Buffy helped me so much and brought an awareness that I still carry with me into workouts. When my son was diagnosed with developmental dyspraxia I knew Buffy could help him integrate his reflexes. Her rapport with my son was so sweet & he really looked forward to going. If you check her education you would be pleasantly surprised that she’s as smart as Spock! She’s got a passion for the physical and emotional body. She can certainly help you with yours.
